1. Where can I find information about Arkansas’ divorce, child custody and/or child support laws and statutes?
You can find information on the internet at the Arkansas Bar Association’s website at www.arkbar.com.
2. Do I really need an attorney?
Even if your divorce is entirely amicable, you should retain an attorney to represent you and your interests. If you have minor children, we strongly suggest contacting our office by phone (501-296-9999) or by email to jtripcony@alltel.net to ensure that any custody issues are handled properly.
3. What do I need when I see the attorney? What should I bring?
When coming to see us for the first time, you need not worry about bringing any documents with you. Consider the first meeting with us as a free opportunity to become acquainted with each other and to know how we may be able to help you. Review of documents can be done later.
4. What are some guidelines for working with my attorney?
Treat your attorney as you would any skilled professional who you’ve hired. Respect his or her knowledge and ability, but don’t be afraid to question and discuss his or her methods or overall strategy.
5. Can I change attorneys in the middle of my case?
You can, but be cautious about doing so. Most judges don’t think much if you change attorneys during the case once, but more than that and they start to wonder if the problem isn’t with you and not the attorney(s).
Don’t, however, be afraid to change attorneys if you feel you truly aren’t getting competent representation. The only thing worse than having to change attorneys is sticking with one who isn’t doing his or her job (and who eventually may lose your case for you).
6. The ‘sure case’. Is there such a thing?
There is no such thing as a “sure case”. If you enter into litigation, you are putting yourself in a precarious spot, no matter how good you think your case is. You should be wary of any attorney that tells you that you have a “sure case.”
